محمود سیف شاعر، نویسنده، جانباز جنگ، و مدرس دانشگاه در رشته‌های حقوق و علوم سیاسی است. او متولد شهرستان دورود در استان لرستان بوده و دارای مدرک فوق‌لیسانس علوم سیاسی و روابط بین‌الملل از دانشگاه علامه طباطبایی است. قلم او تلفیقی‌ست از تصویرسازی‌های کلاسیک شعر فارسی با تأملات فلسفی و انسانی معاصر، و اغلب به موضوعاتی چون عشق، دلتنگی، مادرانگی، و بیداری می‌پردازد.
او نویسنده چهار کتاب مهم و خالق مجموعه ادبی �طلوع بیداری� است که داستان کوتاه �قاب آینه سنگی� از جمله آثار برجسته آن به‌شمار می‌رود. آثار محمود سیف ریشه در تجربه زیسته دارند—چه شخصی و چه تاریخی—و پلی هستند میان حافظه فرهنگی ایران و احساسات انسانی جهانی.
